What does an Intimacy Coordinator do?

 
  • Facilitates clear communication between the director's vision and the performers' personal boundaries.

  • Implements proper protocols for scenes containing intimacy, simulated sex, nudity or high emotional content.

  • Ensures liaison between production and cast.

  • Supports performers through movement coaching and choreography creation for scenes of intimacy, simulated sex and/or nudity.

  • Advocates for the actors.


When should I hire an Intimacy Coordinator?

 
  • Whenever a simulated sex or nudity rider is needed in a scene.

  • Whenever a power dynamic is involved in an intimate scene (ex. a day player in intimate scene with season regular).

  • If an actor feels they need support with sensitive material.

  • If a director feels they need support communicating sensitive material to actors.

  • If production would like to make a safer onset environment for the actors through the establishment of protocols surrounding simulated sex and nudity.

  • If a director or a production wishes to receive support for the choreography or props related to nudity or simulated sex.

Intimacy Coordinators Canada (ICC) represents a collective of certified and/or trusted Intimacy Coordinators, who have trained in Intimacy Directors & Coordinators (IDC)’s methodology specifically for film and television. These distinguished professionals have been trained by the first certified program for Intimacy Coordination in Canada (SAG-AFTRA) and represent the highest standard in intimacy artistry for the screen.

The professionals of Intimacy Coordinators Quebec have extensive movement, sensitivity, and industry training and represent ICC with their professional artistry and integrity. They have completed ICC’s Advanced Professional Training (APT) taught by Lindsay Somers, Casey Hudecki and Mackenzie Lawrence.
